Farewell

Farewell

The internet and content marketing spaces are in a constant state of evolution. We have always kept our finger on the pulse of these shifts to adapt when necessary. A recent development caught us and the rest of the tech world by surprise: the introduction of OpenAI's ChatGPT.

If you are heavily involved in content marketing, you are already well aware of ChatGPT and its abilities. For those unaware, ChatGPT is a highly trained and highly capable chatbot powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Anybody with internet access can strike up a conversation with this chatbot, feed it simple or complex instructions, and observe the AI respond in real time with incredible precision.

From answering complex math or programming problems to writing poetry, ChatGPT can do a lot. One awe-inspiring ability that is relevant to us: long-form text.

The threat of artificial intelligence toward content writing is not a new one. People have long debated the viability and timeline of robots stomping in and taking away the jobs of hardworking people. This, for the most part, is a phenomenon that we are far from realizing in today's current environment, but as far as content writing is concerned, we firmly believe that AI now has its foot in the door.

Feed ChatGPT an article description, and watch it produce a long-form article that is well-written on the exact subject that you requested. Is it perfect? No. But it is good. With a little bit of human editing, it soon becomes great. What used to take a good writer a few hours to do, researching and writing a basic article, can now be accomplished in 10 minutes with ChatGPT and some light editing.

We are witnessing a seismic shift in our industry. It's exciting and scary at the same time. It's exciting because it opens doors to new opportunities that were previously unobtainable. It is scary because it may simultaneously close doors that have been open for a long time, including ours.

It is with a heavy heart we announce that in response to ChatGPT, Contentgather is permanently closing its doors. Our website and operations will remain online through June 2023. The only changes are that we are no longer accepting new registrations or new Marketplace submissions. After June 2023, we will go offline.

Since our launch over 6 years ago, we have always maintained extreme pride in our content's uniqueness, quality, and value. ChatGPT challenges all of these. ChatGPT can quickly generate content that is unique, quality, and of value. Is the content better than what we offer here? No. But the gap is narrow, and it will only get more narrow as this AI improves.

We do not feel that we can continue to provide the value that our clients deserve in the face of ChatGPT. We fear that our writers will utilize ChatGPT to generate content and then submit it as their own to our platform. Our team has spent a lot of time with ChatGPT, and we cannot reliably distinguish or detect AI-generated content from ChatGPT. The content isn't perfect, but it's very good. It's unique. It's grammatically correct. It is clear and concise and remains on topic.

So with this in mind, we put down our pens and close this chapter. The Contentgather platform will remain online through at least June 2023 to process additional Marketplace sales and enable withdrawals and refunds of remaining balances.

To our clients

Thank you for your business over the years. Thank you for trusting us to be the voice of your business. While bittersweet for both you and us, we hope that you can embrace this new AI technology to take your content marketing to new heights.

Our Marketplace of pre-written content remains open for business. All content has been reviewed by an editor and confirmed unique, and we have no reason to believe that any of the content is AI-assisted. To curb the risk of AI-assisted content going forward, we stopped accepting new Marketplace submissions last week. Custom Jobs are still enabled if you wish to submit a request for custom content.

For any balance remaining on your account that you do not wish to use, please contact us to request a refund.

To our writers

Thank you for all of your phenomenal work over the years. We would not exist without you. This is hard on us and no doubt hard on you as well. We want you to understand that we do not believe that these robots can write better than you can. They can't. But please do review the ability of ChatGPT if you have not already. Add it to your toolset - it may be of value for your future writing endeavors. Human-written content is far from over, but if there is ever a time to adapt, that time is now.

Our Marketplace and Custom Jobs remain open. The Marketplace is not accepting new submissions, but any content that you currently have listed in the Marketplace is still eligible to sell, and our clients can still submit Custom Job requests. So keep an eye on both for future earnings.

You retain complete ownership over any content that does not sell in our Marketplace. We will remain online through June 2023, and you can request payment at any time. All payment requests will be honored as they always have.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for your support over the years. I wish you the absolute best as we depart.

Pens down,
Ryan
